I didn't rewrite it.
I walk through the house, it's walls rising up and towering above me. The lightning sprays threatening shadows across the walls. I could hear faint footsteps off in the distance. A door slammed in another part of the building. The old mansion could never withstand this much of a storm.
After taking a walk through entrance room, I found myself lost in the maze of corridors that seemed to go on forever. Now, more alone than ever I let out a slight yelp. All the sounds seemed to stop at the sense of my own unquestionable fear of what I had landed myself in. In a flash a llightbulb shattered in a shower of glass just behind me.
In quick succession all the lightbulbs blew and the hot elements began to ignite the old turkish hallrunner. I started to move faster in my ongoing attempt to flee the horrible mansion. The smell of smoke beginning to tickle my lungs. With no light ahead and an impending inferno coming up the rear i had no choice but to run blindly through the corridors.
I thought that I could spy a window down the end of the longest corridor yet. The smoke now almost choking me, the lights subdued and a faint glimmer of hope said I could escape. Again I heard the faint footsteps. My heart now pounding, like the sound of my footsteps. Looking behind me, i could see nothing but the inferno and the smoke trying to conceal it. I turned all my attention to the end of the corridor now; only there was no end in site. It just seemed to fall off into the distance. There was a faint put-put-put sound now too.
I concentrated as hard as i could to see the door again. My heart now trying to leap from my chest. The footsteps became deafening over the sound of the inferno and the blizzard outside. From the black abyss emerged the faint figure of a man. A man with a sinister walk. At the very sight of this figure i knew i had to flee. A door! I could escape into some other room. None were in sight and the figure still advanced upon me. I took another step and a door i hadn't yet seen was to the side. The footsteps became like explosions at every pace.
I checked again for the man, he was walking faster now, closing the distance. Turning the knob, it was jammed. But i had to get out. My heart now racing a mile a minute. Sweat poring from my freezing body. The flames drawing closer at my rear, i could feel the intense heat as the house disintegrated. The door was jamming, the glass knob shattered in my vain attempt to open the door to my freedom. I glanced back again for the man, and it was soon apparent the put-put-putting was a chainsaw; growling for blood, my blood. I had to get out. I wanted to run, but my feet where planted in the ground. Now my heart could have pounded the door or the sweat flowing from my body extinguished the flames. The enemy was now at a full sprint and only it was only a matter of second before he was upon me.
I bashed the door with my fists my while my legs refused to comply. The faceless figure was now upon my, his grim face like a soulless pit of darkness . The chainsaw screamed in my ears, howling for carnage. The murderer the raised the weapon and brought it down upon my cowering figure with a terrible anger.
Before death struck me; blinding lightning filled the room through some unseen orifice. Suddenly everything was gone, the flames, the blizzard and the terrifying apparition. I was in a bed of an otherwise empty room; presumably in another section of the house. My heart was now calm and my sweat gone and everything felt safe. Nothing of the room could be seen except for the faint outline of a window.
Lightning again flashed and lit up the room, in the brief moment I could only make out the unmistakable outline of the chainsaw wielding menace. His pit-like face focussed entirely upon myself. Again the lightning struck, so near it was that the house shook from the force. In the new light i could make out the put-put-putting chainsaw, being gently caressed by the maniacal hands. The last I could make out was the figure rising from the chair and approaching my final resting place...
